It is estimated that only 10% of home buyers can visualize the potential of a home. That means 90% are not going to be able to look past dirt, clutter, and imperfections. We’ve made it no secret that staged homes sell for more money in less time, but that is easier said than done. Can you live with half your possessions?
While we love our items, taking them out of the house while selling will yield a better result. You’re going to move anyway, so it creates the perfect opportunity to start packing and purging. You’ll be able to create a sense of more space and make the house look bigger to prospective buyers.
So what do you cut down on? Start with the closets. Remove half the clothes, shoes, and other items in your closet. During walk-throughs and open houses your closets and drawers will be inspected. As an important part of daily living, those areas are important to buyers.
Nick knacks, pictures, and artwork should also be cut in half. While you want to showcase tasteful decor, you want to allow the buyer to picture their life in the house. When you’re deciding which half to remove, it should be the ones that make it more personal to you and your taste.
