Don’t Fall For the Wrong House

Buying a house is like falling in love.  It’s easy to get blindsided and caught up in the excitement.  We’ve all seen that young love that seems strong, but is a bad decision.  Maybe this was even  you at age 15 or 16.  It’s time to make sure you don’t make that mistake again.

Shop within your means.

The easiest and most common mistake to make is to fall in love with a house that is out of your price range or doesn’t fit your needs.  Getting a house that’s to expensive will cause financial troubles.  That’s not the only problem.  Your family has needs and a house that doesn’t fit (whether small or large) will only cause heartache and troubles in the end.  You need to limit your search to homes that fit your needs.  It’s fun to dream, but your actual dream home will be exactly what you need.

Don’t be fooled by a pretty face.

You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.  We’ve all heard these lessons, but it’s still so easy to fall for.  Sellers spruce up their homes to make them look as appealing as possible and try to get more money.  You need to make sure you look deep under the surface.  Remember an older home may need some cosmetic updates, but with how much you can save on the house it may be a better value in the long run.  Think about all the scenarios of daily living for your family.  Will this house actually fit all your  family’s needs and for how long?

Hire an agent.

When you look online for yourself you could easily fall in love with what you see.  When you hire an agent, you will only be shown what will actually work for you and your family.  Not only that, you’ll have a great resource to see houses that have yet to hit the market and internet.  You can get exactly what you want without being tempted by what you shouldn’t when you have an expert working for you.
